Okutala and Skeleton Coast, Namibia
Little and Large!
A Namaqua Dove, with a rhino behind it at the
Okutala Lodge and animal sanctuary.
Rhinos, elephants and giraffe and ostrich roam freely inside the sanctuary.
Cheetahs and Leopards are kept within large fenced areas, where one can watch them being fed.
The lodge was also home to hundreds of little Banded Mongooses, running around all over the place.
From Okutala, we flew over the desert to Swakopmund on the Skeleton Coast, passing Mount Brandberg.
We were relieved when the fog rolled back to reveal the coast - miles & miles of white sand.
Swakopmund - in the middle of nowhere!
At the airstrip
We had flown our little plane from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean!
Swakopmund was COLD but the sunset was beautiful.
We drove to Walvis Bay the next day for a boat trip to see the seals
The ones around the harbour would hop on the boat for a quick snack!
We also saw some Bottle-nose Dolphins, and even a distant whale
There were plenty of pelicans around too, also hoping for a fishy snack to be thrown to them.
As we left Swakopmund, to fly up the coast and on to Sossussvlei, we flew over
these wrecks
And another seal colony
Next - the Dunes of Sossussvlei
